Light scattering, speckle correlations, and blind ghost imaging

Abstract: Multiple scattering, e.g. through a cloud or a biological tissue, can scramble the incident light, but can not destroy its information content. Information is also scrambled, and thus difficult to retrieve, but it leaves a signature in the correlations of the scattered intensity patterns. I will overview the basic ideas of light diffusion and discuss speckle correlations. In particular I will show a recently discovered correlation and its use to perform “Blind Ghost Imaging”.
We are a Research Cluster of the School of Mathematics and Physics at Queen’s University Belfast in Northern Ireland. Our research interests are focused primarily on computational and theoretical physics.
